“Open Wide The Freedom Gates” Hand made with the intention to honour Dorothy Height, known as the god mother of the civil rights movement. Denied access to the college because of her race after she was initially accepted, she went on to accomplish incredible things, including her work as the president of the National Council of Negro Women for forty years. Height is credited as the first leader in the civil rights movement to recognize inequality for women and African Americans as problems that should be considered as a whole. Her memoirs were called “Open Wide the Freedom Gates” a phrase and concept that was clearly important to her, and her life’s work. This necklace earring set is Hand fabricated from Sterling/fine silver with 24k gold overlay.
