ITEM DESCRIPTION: Ceramic Pin handbuilt from stoneware clay, bisque fired with handprinted velvet underglaze and then fired to cone 5/6 with zinc-free clear glaze. “To be Black and conscious in America is to be in a constant state of rage.” -James Baldwin I thought back to the origin of this symbol when John Carlos and Tommie Smith raised their fists during the US National Anthem to protest their human rights during the 1968 Summer Olympics. The fact that we are still battling basic human rights for the black population is unjust and appalling. The toll on mental health is real and the culture of what strength looks like needs to change.
