ITEM DESCRIPTION: This piece honors the memory of Poe Black: artist, activist, and beloved friend. Poe's life was taken in May of 2021, when he was 21 years old. The case is still open. He grew up in Nashville, but was living off the grid in Slab City, California, at the time of his death. Poe's friends describe him as a gifted artist, fierce warrior for justice, and generous and thoughtful.
In researching Poe's life, I encountered his artwork, which is full of bright, bold colors and fluid shapes. I immediately connected those pieces to this jasper stone. The central stone is hand cut and polished by me. The jasper is suspended along a setting of sterling silver and brass. The design is open to interpretation, but to me it represents being in transit, on a journey; being suspended between where you are and where you are going. Poe's journey was cut short, but his memory powers those who love and miss him.
This pendant hangs on an 18" sterling silver paperclip chain. It closes securely with a lobster clasp.
