ITEM DESCRIPTION: Neulisa "Alexa" Luciano Ruiz was gunned down in an act of anti-transgender hate in Puerto Rico on February 24, 2020. She was targeted after a social media post claimed she was holding a mirror under a bathroom stall at a McDonald's. This claim was not substantiated. In response to the post, the attackers followed her in a car and shot her ten times. They filmed the entire thing. Alexa was homeless and described by those who knew her as "humble" and "noble." There is no excuse for what was done to her.

My piece was inspired by Alexa. While humble, it carries with it a touch of bling... though homeless, Alexa clearly worked to be fancy in her dress. It whispers to the outfit (all black with a white head covering) she was wearing on the night she was killed. It is comprised of large chainlinks to serve as a reminder fact that none of us are free so long as anyone is oppressed, and the chains that are binding us today are as large and heavy as they have ever been.

Sterling Silver, ethically sourced Labradorite, ethically sourced Garnet. Approximately 16" in length.
