This is the second stanza of Maya Angelou’s poem “Caged Bird.” The poem is an extended metaphor for the historic struggle of Black Americans against ongoing racist oppression. The metaphor also demonstrates the resilience of the black community. The lines of the poem are written in enamel pigment over clear enamel on fine silver. The bird is fine silver with gold foil and enamel. The chain is made of graduated links of blackened steel.
