ITEM DESCRIPTION: Negative attitudes and beliefs towards people who live with mental health conditions is pervasive within the U.S. and can be particularly strong within the Black community. Despite the needs, only one in three Black adults who need mental health care receive it. We must work to break the stigma that mental health is a weakness. This subject is close to my heart as I also suffer from mental health issues.
This brooch represents the light that is within all of us, even in the darkest of times. The missing pieces of gallery wire on one side represent feelings of loss which are often felt when experiencing depression. Gold represents illumination, love, compassion, courage, passion, magic, and wisdom.
The stone is a black agate druzy with beautiful sparkling crystals inside which reflect the light. It is set in sterling and fine silver with 14k gold accents.
