When I imagined this piece, I imagined it for a person on the front lines of the mental health crisis. Someone like a therapist, social worker, or crisis hotline worker. I wanted it to be a flag notifying those grappling with mental health that the wearer is a safe place for them to unload. So many of us suffer alone in silence. Mental health disorders are so very isolating. With suicide rates climbing for BIPOC, especially youth, now more than ever there is a need for a clear, obvious support system. Do I think a pin is going to change someone’s life? Of course not, but I think the more you can offer support, the more you should. I wanted this pin to be a statement of support. A statement that says, “I am here, if you need me.” If that’s who you are, then this pin is for you. And thank you, for doing the work of helping people.
