I dedicated this piece to Aurelia Browder, who prior to this project, I was unfamiliar with. During my research I learned a lot about her inspirational strength and persistence during the Civil rights movement in Montgomery, Alabama during a period of brutal segregation and discrimination. She was an incredible woman that graduated with honors from Alabama State University all while raising 6 kids. She was a key figure in the movement to desegregate in the deep south, and the lead plaintiff in the landmark Browder vs. Gayle case which lead to a Supreme court order to the state of Alabama to desegregate their buses. This bolo tie is sterling silver with handmade silver tips and a pyramidal lapis lazuli stone at the center.
