Two paintings of the late John Lewis, one as a young man and another late into his life, showing his dedication and work that spanned his life up until the very end. The younger painting I surrounded him with Black-eyed Susans, a flower representing justice and encouragement. There is a little hen in reference to his story of preaching to the chickens, and for myself wanting to be among his flock. The older Mr. Lewis stands in front of a silhouette of the Edmund Pettus Bridge, the site of the Bloody Sunday beatings. And, as one of the original 13 Freedom Riders, I painted 13 gold bars around him. Both paintings are multi-media and painted on cold press acid free watercolor paper. They measure 9 inches by 12 inches with a white border for matting.
