Marketplace Updates

Hello, Makers!

This message is to inform you all that the Black Metalsmiths Virtual Marketplace will be coming to an end at the end of this month. I started with hopes that this could continue throughout the entire year, but sales have not been what I had anticipated with all of you and the organizations we’re benefiting in mind. Although it’s coming to an end, I’m still proud to say that collectively, artists earned $2,013.41 in sales, and we were able to donate $509.44 to the following organizations:

$77.32 National Black Disability Coalition

$77.32 Emanuel 9 Memorial

$77.32 Check Your Privilege

$81.13 No More Secrets

$81.13 The Marsha P. Johnson Institute

$115.22 Black Women Lead

Moving forward, it’ll be my pleasure to amplify each of you by sharing about shop updates anyone may be having through their own websites, hosting periodic auctions on Instagram, and collaborating on special fundraisers. You can let me know about shop updates by tagging Metalsmiths for Change on Instagram or by sending a DM. For future events that support Black makers, I’ll be sending an email and/or posting on Instagram.

The next event after the marketplace concludes will be a 24-hr Juneteenth auction that will take place on June 18th. I’ll provide more details next month.

I’m also looking for artists who can create a cast-able piece or a design that can be turned into an enamel pin that represents Metalsmiths for Change or support for LGBTQ+, neurodiverse, or disabled communities. (LGBTQ+, neurodiversity, and disability pieces should be made by those who identify as such.) Artists will receive compensation for approved designs, and pieces will be available for purchase through the website and advertised throughout social media. If you are interested in collaborating, feel free to send a separate email with “collaboration” in the subject line.

Thank you all for being a part of this initiative and supporting this work.

With Gratitute,
